What is mobile phone radiation?

Abstract digital sound wave background

Mobile phones emit radiofrequency energy (microwaves), a form of non-ionizing radiation from their antennas (1). This is the same frequency range as used to heat food in microwave ovens, but much lower power.

The energy of electromagnetic radiation is determined by its frequency; ionizing radiation is high frequency, and therefore high energy, whereas non-ionizing radiation is low frequency, and therefore lower energy.
